What is circuschurch?

it has been 22 years in the making for me. since i can remember, i went to church on sunday mornings. the church i have been at for 16 years, is a big one. middle to upper class, white, and targeted toward an older generation. given the amount of time i have been there, it was a tough concept to wrap my head around, that maybe this isn’t what church is supposed to be. i didn’t want to admit it, but it just wasn’t working and the complexities of trying to make it work only made things harder.

this spiritual journey has led me here. i want to be like Jesus and i want to see the church throw religion to the wind to embrace love to become the bride we are meant to be.

i hope this blog makes you think, i hope you comment, but most of all, i hope this blog makes you react.

me and derrak thank you for coming by. please stop back.

it has been 29 years in the making for me, and I feel as if just now my faith is really starting to become something real and authentic. Maybe thais is normal, who knows, but i have realized something in the past year or two. I have lived most of my life as a christian following religion. Now I want to follow Jesus. I want to embrace the mystery, the sorrow, the challenge, and the joy of that life. It’s hard. It’s hard to peal away what has been embedded in me for so long in order to rediscover what Jesus meant when he said “follow me”.

Don’t get me wrong, I have nothing against the church, or organized churches. In fact I believe the church is the hope of the world. We necessarily must live in community with others who are on this journey too. We cannot do it alone. The church is who Jesus has passed his mission on to.

I guess you could say I want to rediscover the church and what it means to follow Jesus. This is what “CircusChurch” is about. Beyond being a catchy phrase, sometimes I feel like church is a circus. There are all kinds of things going on, and there are these people in the darkness just outside its view watching. Sometimes those people are amazed, sometimes they are disgusted, sometimes they laugh, sometimes they boo, sometimes they clap. “CircusChurch?” is a discussion. It is about asking the question, “What or who is the church, and how am i a part of it”?

Ben and I thank you for stopping by. Please come back and join the discussion.
